When I started kindergarten, my parents put me in Catholic school. Thus began a roller coaster of 6 years filled with drama, drama, drama.
One day in the middle of 5th grade they pulled me out in the middle of the day and suddenly I was at our neighborhood public school that was a total dream. I was academically behind and my parents were writing checks for it! Public school served me well from then on. Santa Clara was a city where you could send your kid to their neighborhood school and it was great.
Sacramento is not that way. There are some incredible school districts - better than what we had growing up. And then there are the total gutter districts. We happen to live within the zone of one of the educational sewers.
I pinned my hopes on tonight's charter school lottery. He wasn't chosen. There were so many incoming kindergartners in the lottery that they didn't even get to his pool.
Gosh. Now what? I know God has a plan for my sweet boy. I just wish I knew what our next step should be.
We should've put Charlotte in charge. This was her face during the lottery - she is holding Sams ticket and she means business.
Well great schools, you're really missing out. My boy is going places.
Tam, I feel you on this one! When we lived in Little Rock we were in the same boat. We tried to get Whit into a magnet school for 1st grade. She didn't get in, so we ended up homeschooling for one horrible year. She got into a magnet for the following year, and it was wonderful. I'll be praying for wisdom for you and Frank as you try to figure out what to do for Sam.
